WOMEN ARE STRONGER ENOUGH NOT TO BE EMPOWERED

By Rahma Salum

Just dare give a room to a woman and watch out what she does.

Women are the important figure in the society. They can stand in any position to serve the society. The way women take good care of their children is the same way when they get a chance to serve the society; they do it very well.

Let’s take a look on few women in Africa, from whom we can draw an example of what kind of women our society needs to make the real changes.

The first is Rehema D Sanga, one among women who prove that they are the important figure in the community. She is running an NGO located in Kivule in Ilala municipality in Dar es Salaam called OCCRI Organization for Capitalizing Community Resources and Initiative which focuses on early childhood development and sustainable economic development projects at local level to empower communities to improve their lives infinitely. The main objective of the organization is to empower community to participate in activities that will improve their socio-economic wellbeing. The outreach program also includes sensitization and advocacy campaign on importance of nutrition, environmental cleanliness, water hygiene and sanitation and addressing unfavorable social norms that affects women and girls’ rights.

Fatema Dewji is another great example. She is marketing director at MELT Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited, one of the largest business houses in Africa. Fatema has been recognized as one of Africa’s most influential women. She is the marketing head of MELT and founder of Educate, Empower and Inspire, a platform she uses to inspire those around her. She has launched a series of videos on marketing and leadership.

Fatma Karume is an advocate who served as the president of Tanganyika Law Society TLS during the period of 2018 to 2019. She is an activist and she is among who are doing great in the field of law. She is recognized as an inspiring woman; intelligent and strong. She is recognized also as an educated advocate woman in Africa.

You can’t talk of the greatest women in Africa and leave out Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She is a Liberian politician who served as the 24th president of Liberia from 2006 to 2018. Sirleaf was the first elected female head of state in Africa. She holds awards like, Nobel peace prize, Presidential medal of freedom, Indira Gandhi prize, Ibrahim prize and Glamour award the chosen one.

Those are just few of women who are doing great in the society. We must value them. We can’t run away from the truth that women are the important figure in our societies. Women have courage for change making and they are innovative.

WOMEN ARE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
To be liberated woman must feel free to be herself, not the context to her own capacity and her personality” Indira Gandhi
